About Our School

OUR VISION is that of a caring, loving Catholic School where all children, whatever their ability, race or creed are cherished for their uniqueness.

Our School seeks to give equal opportunity to all children to reach their full potential – academically, spiritually, physically, socially and emotionally.

We endeavour to achieve this goal in a climate of positive co-operation, supported by the entire school community of pupils,  teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, Board of Management and Parish.

We seek to promote an ethos which is:

Welcoming, tolerant, open, listening, safe, caring, inclusive, aesthetically pleasing and fun.

We are proactive in our efforts to achieve this environment through our language and our actions. The teaching staff value parents/guardians as partners in this process.

We strive to develop independence in our students together with the ability to self evaluate, self motivate and internalise discipline.  We want our students  to be happy with themselves, others and their world.

We want our pupils to enjoy school.  We endeavour to achieve    quality in all we that we do.  These aspirations can only be achieved through the co-operation of students, teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, Board of Management and Community.

Our Mission Statement

The Board of Management and staff of Rathoe National School seek actively, through word and action, to create a happy climate of physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual security for students, staff and parents/guardians, in order to enable the children to grow and learn.

In this way teaching and learning can take place within the context of mutually valuing and respecting relationships.

While Rathoe NS is a school with a Catholic ethos, it also gives due recognition to children of all other religious beliefs and none. The school models and promotes a philosophy of life inspired by belief in God and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and provides religious education in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

Here at Rathoe National School we see education not just as providing students with knowledge and skills but also as providing for the all round development of the individual.

We believe each child has a unique and special contribution to make.

We believe every child matters.

Scoil Phádraig, Rathoe  was founded in 1837. The original school is a stone built, two storey building.  This fine building is situated directly opposite St Patrick’s Church in the village.  It is a listed building and was renovated in recent years.  It served the local community as an educational establishment up to 1972.  Even though the new school opened in 1968, some classes were held in the old school for a further 4 years until 1972.

Rathoe NS is a co-educational Catholic School catering for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The school has expanded rapidly over the last number of years. An ASD Class opened in September 2015. A 2nd Class opened in September 2016 and our third ASD class opened in September 2023.

There are currently 13 teachers on the staff, including Principal Erika Murphy, Deputy Principal Ronan Browne, 10 Class teachers, and SEN team of 3.  We also have a team of 7 Special Needs Assistants.
